THE CASTLE OF MISKOLC-DIÓSGYŐR IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR RECONSTRUCTION!

The Diósgyőr Castle is located in the Diósgyőr part of Miskolc, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains, in beautiful natural surroundings, and it has a prestigious place among the historical buildings of Hungary. It was already the original site of a castle in the times of the conquest of Hungary, but it was destroyed during the Tatar invasion. The first stone castle was built here by the son of Lord Ernye, the son of István Archduke, and it can be considered the ancestor of the present castle.

The building was in its heyday during the reign of King Louis the Great in the 14th century. It played an important historical role during the time of King Louis the Great. It was here that the Treaty of Turin was concluded in 1381, ending the king's wars in Venice, and the period up to 1526, when the castle was the wedding gift, the provincial residence of six queens, which is how it got its name, still in use today, the Castle of the Queens.

The castle's furnishings are unique in that they can be explored in an informal way; visitors can move about and try out all the things in the medieval castle. In addition to the interactive content, animators dressed in period costumes and a space on the ground floor showing everyday life in the Middle Ages contribute to this atmosphere. Its Knights' Hall is the largest in Central Europe. It is a frequent venue for major events and concerts.

The Queen and Queen's Castle is currently closed to visitors due to the reconstruction work. Still, we encourage everyone to visit it during this time as well. Witness the special "rebirth" of the castle and discover another enchanting place! Next to the castle there is a huge arena, the Arena of the Knights' Tournaments, where concerts, theatre performances, festivals and historical games will be taking place in the summer.
