Public transport

The location of the city areas has a cross shape due to its topographic features; therefore the weight of public transportation is borne by the east-west axis. The tramway line has an important role in the passenger traffic of this axis.

Buses also operate on this axis and on the parallel side road sections a few hundred meters away. There are only buses operated on the north-south axis. The axis cross of public transportation is complemented by secondary bus lines that connect the peripheries lying along the administrative boundaries into the city circulation.

Tramway transportation was launched on 10th July 1897. Operation started with 9 motor wagons and 4 tow-cars between Tisza Railway Station and Veres Church.
Scheduled automobile transportation was launched on 1st July 1903 with one line per hour operating between the city centre and Diósgyőr.

Miskolc Városi Közlekedési Rt. (Miskolc City Transport Plc.) (MVK) was established by the Municipality of Miskolc City of County Rank with exclusive ownership on 1st February 1994 for the provision of local community transport services.
