Hungarian Museum of Technology and Traffic – Museum of Metallurgy

The museum presents the historical development of the Hungarian and universal iron smelting from the ancient world until today – illustrated by rich collection of artefacts, dioramas, running models.

The museum founded in 1949 is housed in the office building – originally serving as a chancellery – constructed in the second half of the 18th century during the time of Henrik Fazola in baroque style.

Collection of the museum material started in 1952 with the processing of the documents relating to the history of iron production in Diósgyőr. The first permanent exhibition was opened in 1970 for the 200th anniversary of iron production in Diósgyőr and the 10th anniversary of the Museum’s opening.

The exhibition presents not only the history of smelting in Hungary but also gives a picture of iron works of people outside Europe.
